“Bachelor” fans finally have some answers about why Nick Viall and Vanessa Grimaldi split three years ago.
Nick explained on his Patreon series, “I think we both have fears and anxieties about what the other person would say in the privacy of their homes [about our breakup]. My biggest anxiety and fear is whoever heard that conversation would see me as a heartless d--k.”
Vanessa weighed in, “I would probably hear your version of it and I think I would sound crazy. I think I would sound emotionally unstable.”
The pair got engaged on the finale of “The Bachelor” in March 2017, but by August they were over.
Nick explained it this way: “I think the one thing Vanessa and I really agreed about is how much we cared and how much we tried. And we just went about it so unproductively… If the speed of how you’re driving is equal to the effort you’re putting in, we were both going 100 miles per hour, but we were both going at opposite directions at one another and it eventually just crashed and exploded.”
Vanessa said it was really hard as they transitioned from the show to real life, revealing, “I don’t even know if you know this, but I would lock myself in the bathroom, just turn the shower on and cry for hours. I’m pretty sure I went through states of depression… while we were living together in downtown L.A., while you were on ‘Dancing With the Stars.’”
Things weren’t much better for Viall. He confessed, “You were crying in the shower and I was just sitting for hours at the gym, sighing, huffing, and puffing. I wasn’t even working out. I was just sitting there stressed out.”
They tried couples therapy and discovered they had two different love languages. Ultimately, Vanessa said, “We were two puzzle pieces that just didn’t fit.”
