“Extra’s” Billy Bush sat down with Rob Lowe as he promoted his show “9-1-1: Lone Star.”
In the show, Rob plays the role of a firefighter who moves to Texas to start a new life. He said, “To be able to play real heroes is an amazing opportunity for me.”
Rob has a personal relationship with firemen after the 2017 Santa Barbara wildfires, even inviting them over for dinner. He shared, “Most of Santa Barbara had evacuated. Our area had not. We were able to host a lot of the guys who were just legitimately sleeping at night out in open fields.”
When Billy called him “sexy,” the 55-year-old quipped, “What’s funny is… I could be on the cover of AARP. Let’s keep that in mind.”
AARP is considered the nation’s largest nonprofit organization aimed to empowers Americans, who are 50 or older.
Lowe also explained his choice to incorporate the Atkins program into his life. He said, “This is why I do it — I have energy. On the show, I really need it because it’s unbelievably active.”
He emphasized, “I haven’t needed to use it as weight loss. That’s why it’s not a diet, it’s just a way of life for me.”
When he’s not working, Rob is a dad to two sons John and Matthew. He admitted, “My kids trolling me on Instagram is the modern day version of, ‘Dad, your shoes are lame.’ You can't win.”
On social media, Rob recently showed some love to his dogs. He said, “What could you possibly say negative about that? Look at those young pups. Aren't they cute? They aren't the smartest. But they are the most beautiful.”
Before the interview ended, Rob expressed his desire to play a game of tennis or tennis golf with Billy. When asked if he could handle a defeat, Rob answered, “I think I'm gonna get you at tennis and golf is any man's bet.”
“9-1-1: Lone Star” premieres Sunday on FOX.
