“Empire” fans may get some closure when it comes to Jussie Smolett’s character Jamal Lyon.
Smollett exited the show last season after Jamal and Kai tied the knot. Now, showrunner Brett Mahoney tells TV Line he’s not ruling out his return.
Mahoney explained, “It would be weird in my mind to end this family show and this family drama of which he was such a significant part of without seeing him. It’s fair to say it’s being discussed, but there’s no plan as of yet to bring him back. There’s been no decision made.”
The stars of the show have been candid about what is was like on set without Jussie, who was accused of staging an attack on himself in January. Smollett has denied any involvement in the alleged crime.
A few months ago, his TV dad Terrence Howard told “Extra’s” Cheslie Kryst, “I was closest to Jussie. It hurts not to have him here. It’s like losing a son.” He added, “But it’s nice not having all the media circus around regarding all the things that took place.”
His TV mom Taraji P. Henson told Cheslie she was also missing him. “I miss him just like a mother misses a child.”
