Poor Savannah Guthrie had to have eye surgery after all.

Last month, the “Today” co-host called into the show and revealed she was forced to take a few days off after her son Charley, 2, “threw a toy train at my right eye and it tore my retina.”

At the time, she said she lost vision in her right eye and doctors were afraid her retina would detach. They used laser procedures to avoid performing surgery.

On Wednesday, she gave an update, letting fans know via Instagram that she did have to undergo surgery due to a “massive tear” and “retina detachment.”

She shared on Instagram, “Turns out I had to have surgery today because I had a massive tear in my retina and retina detachment. I am home resting for a while. Very grateful to my doctors, prayers of good friends and my husband @feldmike who has swooped in like a superhero.”

Savannah included an adorable “out of office” note from her daughter Vale, 5, that said, “Nobody can come into my mommy’s room.”

The “Today” show also shared a photo of Savannah recovering at home. The newswoman appeared to be on a special chair where she could rest her forehead on a fleece shelf and her arms on a second shelf. Her son Charley was right there with her.
