Justin Timberlake is speaking out for the first time about a photo of him holding hands with his “Palmer” co-star Alisha Wainwright in New Orleans.
Timberlake denies anything happened, while acknowledging he drank too much and regrets his behavior. He also apologized to his wife Jessica and son Silas, 4, for his lapse in judgment.
The star wrote, “I stay away from gossip as much as I can, but for my family I feel it is important to address recent rumors that are hurting the people I love.”
He went on, “A few weeks ago I displayed a strong lapse in judgement — but let me be clear — nothing happened between me and my costar. I drank way too much that night and I regret my behavior.”
“I should have known better,” he wrote. “This is not the example I want to set for my son. I apologize to my amazing wife and family for putting them through such an embarrassing situation, and I am focused on being the best husband and father I can be. This was not that.”
Justin ended by writing, “I am incredibly proud to be working on Palmer. Looking forward to continuing to make this movie and excited for people to see it.”
The photos, published by a British tabloid, showed Justin and Alisha holding hands on a bar balcony on Bourbon Street, and another of Alisha placing her hand on his leg.
Wainwright’s rep told People at the time, “There is no validity to this speculation. They are currently working on a project together. Members of the cast and crew were all together.”
Justin's wife Jessica Biel was spotted wearing her wedding ring after the photo surfaced. A source told People magazine, "He’s charming and outgoing. And obviously he drank too much this time, but Jessica believes he didn’t cheat on her. She will stand by him.”
Another insider told the outlet that Justin and Jessica will "work through this. It was good that he apologized publicly but obviously the real work he is doing is in private and hopefully this was just a bad drunken night of this type of behavior.”
