“Jeopardy!” contestant Dhruv Gaur had a special message for Alex Trebek, who is battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
During Monday’s Final Jeopardy, Dhruv was behind and had no chance of winning. He used his answer to write, “We [heart] You, Alex!”
A surprised Trebek was nearly brought to tears as he read the answer. Watch!
Gaur and his two competitors were wearing purple ribbons in honor of the longtime host.
In September, Trebek revealed on “Good Morning America” that he would need to undergo more chemotherapy.
Weeks later, in a sit-down interview with Canada’s CTV News, Trebek said that he may not be able to continue hosting “Jeopardy!”
He is starting to lose control over his tongue, causing him to slur his words. He said, “I will keep doing [the show] as long as my skills do not diminish, and they have started to diminish.”
He added about his inability to enunciate, “I’m sure there are observant members of the television audience that notice also, but they’re forgiving. But there will come a point when [fans and producers] will no longer be able to say, ‘It’s okay.’”
