Actress Laverne Cox, 47, and CEO Kyle Draper, 33, have ended their relationship after dating for nearly two years.
Cox and Draper broke the news to their fans on Instagram Tuesday. Cox wrote, “@thekyledraper and I have broken up. After much soul searching and tears from both of us, we have decided it’s time for us to go our separate ways.”
She also explained that a public announcement was necessary because their relationship was public in ways they didn’t imagine.
Draper posted the same video that Cox posted. The caption led with “@lavernecox and i have broken up, and she wrote the most beautiful statement that sums up our feelings perfectly.”
The trans actress is known for her role in the hit Netflix series “Orange Is the New Black” and as an LGBTQ activist.
When the couple started dating in 2017, the two had been viewed as a shining example for the community. Cox added, “We know our relationship meant so much to so many people, especially trans folks, giving them hope that this kind of love is possible for them as well. That hope, the hope for love has not warned for me in the face of this breakup but rather is fortified.”
The couple originally met on Tinder. After celebrating their one-year anniversary, Cox told People Magazine, “I’ve never felt a man as all-in as he is.”
The couple would have celebrated their two-year anniversary in July.
