“Extra's” AJ Calloway sat down with Jada and her mother, Adrienne Banfield Norris, as they promoted the new season of their hit show.
Jada's husband Will Smith is the first guest of the season. In a recent clip of the episode, Will revealed that Jada cried for 45 days straight just months after pointing out that they don't consider themselves married anymore, but life partners.
Of her husband's revelations, Jada commented, “I know where he is in his life, I know where I am in my life, so to have that space of freedom, we've been in a seven-year transformation. It seems new to you guys, but it's not new to us, we have had a long time to live with these new truths, live with new reality.”
As for what lead to the transformations, she explained, “I had a midlife crisis, so, yeah, a a lot of things needed to change… We went through a very, very excruciating journey together to make those transitions.”
Jada's mom Adrienne also opened up on her reaction after hearing about her daughter's struggles. While they had spoken about it before “Red Table Talk,” she admitted, “It was really, really excruciating… It was very very painful to hear because I had no idea, because that's not what she presented... It was difficult, but then she explained to me why she didn't share… She shouldn't have had to carry that burden all by herself.”
Jada noted she wasn't alone in her struggles, elaborating, “I reached out to people that aren't a part of my world every day… People who I could deeply trust outside of my immediate circle. One of the reasons they really inspired me to do this 'Red Table Talk' is because these women were so honest with me about their truth and lives, they really prevented me from doing dumb things… I was like, 'Why don't we talk about this more often?'"
Will just celebrated his 50th birthday by bungee jumping out of a helicopter over the Grand Canyon. As for her present to him, Jada said, “I parachuted out of a plane in Dubai — that was his birthday present.”
“That was the only thing he wanted for his birthday, and I haven't done jack crap he wanted for the last seven years,” Jada continued.
