The Ladies of ‘The View’ on Ivanka Trump & Jared Kushner Attending Sen. John McCain's Funeral
“The View” co-hosts kicked off Season 22 with new addition Abby Huntsman, as Meghan McCain took time off to grieve the loss of her father, Sen. John McCain.
“Extra's” AJ Calloway caught up with the ladies, who spoke about Meghan and weighed in on Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner attending her dad's funeral, even after President Trump was asked not to come.
Abby, who left her role at Fox News to join “The View,” is also from a political family — her father Jon Huntsman Jr. is the current U.S. Ambassador to Russia. Abby said she was with Meghan at the funeral this weekend.
“Meghan is like a sister to me,” she said. “Her eulogy was so beautiful and so 'Meghan,' because it was real, it was passionate, and she spoke for her dad and she spoke for this country.”
Of Ivanka and Jared attending the funeral at Washington National Cathedral, Huntsman said, “I was actually surprised to see them there… From what I hear, the invite wasn't directly from the family. I think [Sen.] Lindsey Graham invited them and in a way maybe it was good… maybe it was good for them to hear what was said in that funeral.”
Abby said Meghan wasn't fazed by their presence. “I spent the afternoon with her after the funeral and her focus was her dad... and making sure he had a good farewell.”
Joy Behar was at the services, too. She told AJ, “Her subtext, not so subtle of subtext using the words the President uses... phenomenal, people started applauding… It was memorable, I must say.” Joy said she thinks Jared and Ivanka were “uncomfortable” at the funeral. “They were talking about her father indirectly," Joy noted. "They were clapping against her father indirectly.”
Sunny Hostin supported Meghan at the funeral as well, saying, “She is devastated by the loss of her father. He was her best friend. We're not sure when she's coming back but when she is ready we've all told her that we're here, we will hold her hand through this process.” Hostin added, “I knew she had been working on the eulogy for a while… She was strong and she was fierce.”
