It was a big morning for country music as the 2018 CMA nominations were made at Luke Bryan's bar in Nashville.
“Extra” special correspondent Alecia Davis spoke with Luke, who was nominated for Entertainer of the Year. He smiled, commenting, “Yeah, a... little entertainer of the year.” He emphasized, “I don't take a second in this business for granted. If I can't walk around with my head held high today, I need to get out. Entertainer of the year nomination means I am doing something right.”
Along with his tour, Luke is getting ready to head back to the judges' table with Lionel Richie and Katy Perry on “American Idol.” He shared, “We start auditions maybe in like a month, month and a half… I'm excited to see what America brings us. It's exciting to see talent walk in that have this God-given ability."
Of the trio's chemistry, he noted that it'll “pick up right where it left off,” adding, “It took us a couple of months to know if can poke each other without feelings getting hurt.”
“Get ready, we are taking the gloves off this year,” Luke joked.
As for whether his mom will make an appearance this season, the 42-year-old quipped, “There's no telling where my mom will show up. Depends if there is a free purse or shoes.”
Luke also reflected on the loss of legendary singer Aretha Franklin, saying, “I remember being a kid watching 'The Blues Brothers' and just watching how she delivered that performance in that movie. She was so dominating…She left an everlasting memory, and she certainly changed the face of music."
