Matt Lauer’s Friend Reveals How He Is Coping, Plus: His Wife's Father Speaks Out on Their Marriage!
It's been a week since Matt Lauer was let go from his contract with “Today.”
Last week, Lauer was accused of sexual misconduct by several women and fired by NBC, which received a “detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior.”
After the shocking allegations broke, Lauer apologized for his actions, saying, “There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions. To the people I have hurt, I am truly sorry. As I am writing this, I realize the depth of the damage and disappointment I have left behind at home and at NBC.”
As for how Lauer is doing, one of his former “Today” show colleagues told People magazine, “He is weak and broken and ashamed by his own admission.”
“He is my friend. He is human, and he is flawed,” the pal continued. “But is he going to use his power to be a predator on women? Until I see solid evidence of that, I just can't believe it. We don't know the details.”
Though several women accused him of sexual harassment, his colleague defended him, arguing, “All of us are career women, and not one of us would have put up with an environment that's as distasteful as has been described. There was never anything I was offended by on any level. I wouldn't have put up with it. Neither would any of us.”
Since the allegations broke, Lauer has left his NYC apartment and retreated to his family home in the Hamptons, where his wife Annette Roque and their kids live.
Annette's father Henri recently claimed that they will be heading for a divorce. He told DailyMailTV, “I have no words for her husband. What he has done is bad. Everybody feels betrayed. She is not going to stay with him and work it out. They are not together trying to work it out.”
On Wednesday, Annette was also spotted without her wedding ring. Lauer and Roque have been married for 19 years.
