'Barney Miller' Star Ron Glass Dead at 71

TMZ broke the news exclusively that "Barney Miller" star Ron Glass died late Friday night of respiratory failure. He was 71.

According to a statement received by TMZ from Glass's rep, Jeffrey Leavitt, the actor was "a private, gentle and caring man. He was an absolute delight to watch on screen. Words cannot adequately express my sorrow."

Glass was Emmy-nominated for his performance as flashy Det. Ron Harris on the show, on which he appeared from 1975 to 1982 in 164 episodes.

He went on to play the role of Felix Unger in one of several TV retoolings of the classic "The Odd Couple," entitled "The New Odd Couple," from 1982 to 1983. Glass was also a regular on such shows as "Amen" (1989-1991), "Rugrats" (1993-2001), "Firefly" (2002-2003), and "All Grown Up!" (2003-2008).
