'19 Kids and Counting' Cancellation Cost Discovery $19 Million

The cancellation of "19 Kids and Counting" is an expensive loss for Discovery.
During a conference call on Wednesday, CFO Andrew Warren revealed that the cancellation cost the channel millions, citing “higher restricting and other charges this year of $19 million, primarily due to content impairment charges of canceling TLC's '19 Kids and Counting.'"
The show was axed following Josh Duggar's sexual abuse scandal. In a 2006 police report, it was revealed that Josh had molested five underage girls during his teenage years, including two of his sisters, Jill and Jessa.
Though Discovery lost millions, they can recoup some of the losses with a planned documentary on sexual abuse, which will air on TLC.
