TV Chef Sandra Lee Out of Surgery, NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo at Bedside
Celebrity chef Sandra Lee is out of surgery following a double mastectomy Tuesday morning, and is “groggy, but grateful,” according to her Facebook page. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, Lee's partner of 10 years, joined her in the operating room and stayed at her bedside until she fell asleep.
Lee's team has been updating fans via Facebook with a recent post featuring a pic of the couple dressed in scrubs, with the caption, “Sandra is out of surgery! She is currently in a recovery room with Governor Cuomo and her sister Kimber. She's still a little groggy, but grateful the surgery is completed for today. Check them out – stylish even in scrubs!"
In March, doctors told Sandra that they found cancer in her right breast after a routine mammogram. She was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), the most common type of non-invasive breast cancer. DCIS is called "non-invasive" because it hasn't spread beyond the milk duct into any normal surrounding breast tissue. DCIS isn't life-threatening, but having DCIS can increase the risk of later developing an invasive breast cancer.
