You 'Mad'? 'Pitch Perfect 2' Rules at the Box Office!
In a noteworthy debut, 'Pitch Perfect 2' is not only the biggest winner at the box office this weekend, it's crushing its own high expectations. As of today, the feel-good, sound-good movie is well on its way to raking in over $60 million.
According to Variety, prognosticators had seen 'Pitch Perfect 2' making about $40 million; instead, it is now projected to make $64 million, over twice what it cost and already more than halfway toward the entire, worldwide box-office take of the original 'Pitch Perfect.'
The continuation of the 'Mad Max' series, 'Mad Max: Fury Road,' starring Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy, should come in second, with a projected $41 million. Look for 'Avengers: Age of Ultron,' which crossed the billion-dollar mark this week, to log another $37 million.

The success of 'Pitch Perfect 2' is a big deal for female-driven films—it's anchored by female leads (Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson) and a large, predominantly female cast; was directed by Elizabeth Banks (who also appears in the film); and was written by Kay Cannon.
It's no coincidence that Beyoncé's "Run the World (Girls)" is revealed to be a major part of the film in the trailer!
