Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez Dragged Into Immigration Debate
Singer Justin Bieber and actress Selena Gomez were the subject of a “who's the immigrant and who's the citizen” pop quiz -- in Congress on Wednesday. Rep. Luis Gutierrez used the couple, among other sets of celebrities, to point out issues with Arizona's immigration law, reports MSNBC.
The Democrat from Chicago targeted the recently upheld “Show Me Your Papers” law, which requires police officers to ask for proof of citizenship if they have reason to suspect the person is in the US illegally.
"Justin, when you perform in Phoenix, remember to bring your papers," Gutierrez told Bieber, who hails from Canada.
He also paired basketball players Tony Parker and Jeremy Lin and reporters Ted Koppel and Geraldo Rivera. Parker is French, while Koppel is from England.
