Chris Brown has broken his silence about assaulting Rihanna earlier this year -- and says he "can't believe" he battered the woman he still loves.
"I'm in shock, because, first of all, that's not who I am as a person, and that's not who I promise I want to be," Brown said on "Larry King Live," regarding reports of the incident. "I just don't know what to think. I'm just like, wow. It's crazy to me." The full interview will air on King's show this Wednesday.
Even more crazy is Brown's claim that he doesn't remember beating RiRi. Chris said that he had no recollection of the incident, simply saying "no" when Larry asked if Chris remembered doing it.
Breezy told King that he still loves and is in love with the "Disturbia" singer -- and confessed that it's hard to look at the photos of Rihanna bloodied and bruised that were leaked after the attack. Despite his professed love for his ex, Brown has been ordered by the court to stay away from Rihanna. "We have to be like 10 yards away from each other," said Brown.
The R&B star pleaded guilty to felony assault on June 22, agreeing to a plea deal that kept him from being locked up. Terms of the deal require Brown to do six months of community labor, and will keep Chris on probation for another five years.
Brown has no qualms with the sentencing -- he told King he thought it was "fair" that he pay his debt to society. "They want me to pick up trash, remove graffiti," he said. "I'm a hard worker, it's something I'm willing to do."
Chris had no explanation for why or how he carried out the attack -- although he admitted that he had never learned how to control his anger.
Brown's mother, Joyce Hawkins, is still puzzled by how and why the attack took place. "Chris has never, ever been a violent person, ever," Hawkins told King, also revealing that despite everything that's happened, she's maintained a friendly relationship with Rihanna. "I let her know that I was very, very baffled, what had happened and apologized for my son, along with I'm so sorry what happened to you. And I didn't know what -- I didn't know what else to say, and I gave her a hug and she hugged me as well."
Brown revealed that he hadn't seen RiRi in months -- and admitted that it was hard to see pictures in the tabs of his ex out with other men. "I definitely would be affected by it, but at the end of the day, I mean, we're not together, so if she's happy, I'm cool."
