Belle of the Neighborhood Ball
Michelle Obama glammed it up with a shimmering white bare-shoulder gown, custom-made for the First Lady by 26-year-old designer Jason Wu. The gown was embellished with floral appliqués and beading.
According to AP, Wu sewed the dress himself in December, and sent sketches to Obama, but he didn't know that Michelle would wear the dress until he spotted her in it! "It's soft, feminine, but powerful," said Jason. "I wanted to convey all that in a dress -- I wanted it to look like a sign of hope."
Wu's design certainly got the attention of the new Commander-in-Chief, who asked the crowd at the ball before taking the dance floor, "First of all, how good-looking is my wife?"
Mrs. Obama's formal gown was a sharp contrast to the chartreuse dress she wore to the inauguration ceremony, which drew approval from style gurus. Click here to let "Extra" know what you thought of Michelle's daytime look!
