Success and the 'City'
It was a weekend of cosmos and Manolo Blahniks as "Sex and the City" fans mobbed theatres to see the flick! The movie, based on the smash HBO series, raked in $55 million in its opening weekend, displacing the "Indiana Jones" sequel for the number one spot at the box office.
"Extra" caught up with star Sarah Jessica Parker at the MTV Movie Awards -- and she was thrilled about the "SATC" success! Said Parker, "This movie sort of exceeded my wildest expectations."
The hotly anticipated chick flick became the first romantic comedy to make that kind of dough during an opening weekend -- the title was previously held by "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Runaway Bride," which both took in $35 million in their premiere weekends.
