L.A. Rams Players Promote Fire Safety Just in Time for the Holidays

“Extra’s” Charissa Thompson sat down with L.A. Rams players Tyler Higbee and Bradley Marquez to talk fire safety and preparation, a timely topic for the holidays.

The footballers stopped by last month to raise awareness of Fire Prevention Week.

“The American Red Cross has teamed up with professional athletes all over the country to install some smoke alarms in homes and also raise fire awareness and fire safety,” Higbee said.

Marquez chimed in, “It’s important because fires in America kill more Americans a year than national disasters combined. So it’s something that, I think is overlooked, but it’s something that is very important and needs the attention.”

With Thanksgiving around the corner, ovens and stoves around the country will be abuzz, and it’s the perfect time to make sure smoke detectors, fire alarms and prevention techniques are in place.

“Having a smoke alarm in your home can decrease deaths in fires up to 50%,” Tyler informed.

“You also need to have a game plan in your homes – to have a fire escape route – to get out of your house in case of a burning fire, in less than two minutes,” Bradley emphasized.
