Why Halle Berry Chose to Live in a Shelter Early in Her Acting Career

“Extra’s” Mark Wright recently sat down with Halle Berry as she promoted her new film “Kingsman: The Golden Circle.”

Along with chatting about the movie, Halle also opened up about her own real-life struggles while pursuing her dreams of being an actress. Of her decision to live in a New York City shelter at the start of her career, she reflected, “That shelter was by choice. It’s not that I didn’t have a place to live. I could have gone back to a loving family and my mom that live in Cleveland, I just didn’t want to. I was determined to make it on my own.”

Halle has been able to tough it out and become a Hollywood success story, even winning an Oscar. She said, “I do feel really proud of myself that I’ve managed at my age to still be working in this business on my own terms doing what I love to do."

Berry was joined by her co-star Pedro Pascal, who agreed that she was winning at life!
