Liam Neeson on Losing Nearly 20 Lbs. for ‘Silence’

Legendary director Martin Scorsese’s latest film, “Silence,” was over 25 years in the making, and took a heavy toll on stars Liam Neeson, Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver.

Their roles were taxing on the actors because they had to lose a significant amount of weight in order to portray 17th-century Portuguese priests on a mission in Japan. Liam told “Extra” he lost “16 or 17 pounds,” and said, "Andrew dropped a considerable amount of weight. Adam, I know lost — all the actors felt we just wanted to get it right for him."

Liam joked that he couldn’t wait to finish filming, saying, “I definitely had a few chocolate brownies when I got back, that’s for sure.”

“Silence” is in theaters now.
