Anca Pop has been found dead, reports the Associated Press. The singer was 34.
Divers discovered Pop’s car and body submerged in the Danube River on Monday, after she was reported missing.
Her sister called authorities when she failed to show up to a family gathering on Sunday.
Authorities say her car plunged into the river, but the surrounding circumstances are unclear. Her death is now under investigation.
The artist released a self-titled album two years ago featuring music that Billboard describes as a mix of Balkan and mainstream.
According to the magazine, Pop and her family escaped Romania via the Danube River in 1987 and made their way to Canada. They returned later, once Communist Party rule ended.
The AP says she caused a stir in Romania earlier this year when she revealed she was in a same-sex relationship.
Pop’s final Instagram post, from November 15, shows the singer gazing out at the Danube.
