Meteorologist Jessica Starr’s family is “not doing well” in the aftermath of her tragic suicide.
Her mother Carol Starr told RadarOnline.com, “I’m just so distraught… we’re just devastated.”
“She was a fabulous, dedicated, wonderful, strong, determined, beautiful daughter,” Carol said. “She was everything. She was my girl.”
Jessica was a 35-year-old married mother of two young children, and Carol said her granddaughter has asked for Jessica.
She shared, “My granddaughter asked for her last night. I laid down with her and she said, ‘I want somebody else,’ and I just fell apart.” Meanwhile, Carol said Jessica’s widower Daniel isn’t sure how he will raise the children alone.
Carol previously told Radar that Jessica had undergone a new type of LASIK eye surgery in October after suffering from poor eyesight her entire life.
“She went to, like, four specialists,” Carol said. “From what we’re hearing now, [the surgery] can have other implications, including on the optic nerve. It can cause some brain trauma.”
She said that as Jessica recovered from the LASIK, “It was affecting her sleep. She lost weight. You never expect it to get this bad.”
Jessica hinted at complications when she tried to return to work at FOX 2 in Detroit in mid-November. She told Facebook fans she was “still healing,” adding, “I am struggling a little bit, so I do still need all the prayers and well wishes because this is a hard go.” She said doctors told her it could take up to “three months or so” before she would feel 100 percent.
On Thursday, RadarOnline.com exclusively learned the Oakland Medical Examiner had listed her cause of death as “hanging” and “manner of death by suicide.”
A spokesperson called it a “gruesome scene,” adding, “It’s just very sad.”
