Actress Michelle Williams is married!
While they never went public with their relationship, Williams and indie rock musician and Mount Eerie frontman Phil Elverum tied the knot in a secret ceremony in upstate New York earlier this month, Vanity Fair reports.
Michelle and Phil, who met through mutual friends, exchanged vows in front of a small group of friends, her daughter Matilda, 12, and his daughter, 3.
Williams told the publication, “Obviously, I've never once in my life talked about a relationship. But Phil isn't anyone else. And that's worth something. Ultimately the way he loves me is the way I want to live my life on the whole. I work to be free inside of the moment. I parent to let Matilda feel free to be herself, and I am finally loved by someone who makes me feel free."
“I never gave up on love," Michelle added. "I always say to Matilda, 'Your dad loved me before anybody thought I was talented, or pretty, or had nice clothes.'"
While she "doesn't really want to talk" about her relationship with Phil, she emphasized the importance of not settling. She said, "Don’t settle. Don’t settle for something that feels like a prison, or is hard, or hurts you. If it doesn’t feel like love, it’s not love.”
Phil and his daughter have moved in with Michelle and Matilda in Brooklyn. He was previously married to Geneviève Castrée, who lost her battle with pancreatic cancer in 2016.
Earlier this year, Michelle sparked engagement rumors with financial consultant Andrew Youmans after she was spotted with a heart-shaped diamond ring at the Golden Globes.
At the time, a source told E! News, “Michelle has been with Andy for longer than people think. They are very serious and were right away. She has kept the relationship under wraps and made a point not to bring him to public events."
