On Sunday, Kerry Washington stunned in a plunging silver Atelier Versace jumpsuit on the red carpet of the Tony Awards.
Accompanied by husband Nnamdi Asomugha, Washington told “Extra” about her return to the stage. She said, “I’m coming back to Broadway in the fall with a brand-new play, ‘American Son.’ I am just in love with this play, it’s so important and moving and gripping. It floored me on the page, so I just cant wait to get it on its feet.”
“When I read this play," Kerry went on, "I was like, ‘I have to get [myself] back to Broadway… I am just thrilled to be part of the team that is bringing it to life."
She discovered the play while she was still shooting “Scandal,” saying, “I was reading and studying lines for ‘Scandal’ and I was like, 'I'll read just a little bit of this play ‘American Son’ and I'll finish the rest tomorrow,’ and I stayed up till one in the morning reading it because I could not put it down and I had to do an eight-page monologue the next day for ‘Scandal’ so I was like, 'Okay, this is a great play.'”
“American Son” will begin performances October 6 with an official opening night set for November 4 at the Booth Theatre.
