Former “Glee” actor Mark Salling has passed away at the age of 35.
TMZ reports that Salling died from an apparent suicide. His body was found near a riverbed in Sunland, California, near his residence.
According to the site, he committed suicide by hanging from a tree. When authorities found his body at a baseball field, it appeared he had been dead for some time.
His lawyer Michael J. Proctor said in a statement to "Extra" on Tuesday morning, "I can confirm that Mark Salling passed away early this morning. Mark was a gentle and loving person, a person of great creativity, who was doing his best to atone for some serious mistakes and errors of judgment. He is survived by his mother and father, and his brother. The Salling family appreciates the support they have been receiving and asks for their privacy to be respected."
A police officer told Fox News, "The LAPD did respond to a death investigation at 8:50 this morning at the 11900 block Big Tujunga Canyon Road."
A month before his sudden death, Salling pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography as part of a plea deal. He admitted to owning around 50,000 pornographic images and 60 pornographic videos of underage children. At the time of his death, he was awaiting sentencing, which had been set for March. He was expected to serve four to seven years in prison.
In October, TMZ reported that Salling had cut his wrists in August before accepting the plea deal. At the time, his lawyers denied it was a suicide attempt.
