Naya Rivera, famous for her role as Santana Lopez on "Glee," was charged with domestic battery following an alleged altercation with her actor husband Ryan Dorsey late Saturday night.
A statement from the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office obtained by "Extra" confirms Deputy T. Dubiel was dispatched to a home in Chesapeake, West Virginia, (Dorsey's hometown) on November 25 following receipt of a domestic violence complaint.
The statement reads, in part:
"When he arrived he spoke with Ryan Keith Dorsey who said his wife, Naya Marie Rivera (30 years old of Woodland Hills, CA), struck him in the head and face. The Deputy saw minor injuries consistent with his statement. Mr. Dorsey showed Deputies a video made during the incident, which also supported Mr. Dorsey’s account of the incident."
Rivera stands accused of striking her husband while on a walk with their 2-year-old son Josey on 126th Street in Chesapeake, WCHS reports. The sheriff's office reports "the two were arguing over their child." Nobody required medical attention. A 911 call may be released.
Rivera was arrested and charged with domestic battery, was booked, and was then taken to Kanawha County Magistrate Court. She was arraigned and her bond was set before she was released on a $1,000 bond. She was picked up by Dorsey's father.
People magazine reports Rivera was filmed by news station WSAZ. In the video, she wears a hoodie and her behavior is subdued. When asked by an officer behind a desk if she is "Naya Marie Riviera," she quietly corrects him on the pronunciation of her last name before whispering, "Yeah."
The statement points out, "The charge against Mrs. Rivera is merely an accusation. She is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty."
Just last month, Rivera announced she and Dorsey had called off a divorce. She told People of the decision, "It is what it is, but I'm glad that my family is together."
Rivera had previously dated Mark Salling, who is currently facing years in prison after a guilty plea to possession of child porn, and rapper Big Sean, to whom she was engaged.
