nstead of attending the Opening of Parliament with his wife, Queen Elizabeth, 96-year-old Prince Philip is staying in a hospital for “precautionary” reasons stemming from an infection.
Buckingham Palace said in a statement, "The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London last night, as a precautionary measure, for treatment of an infection arising from a pre-existing condition. Prince Philip is in good spirits and is disappointed to be missing the State Opening of Parliament and Royal Ascot.”
A few days ago, Philip joined Queen Elizabeth as they watched the Royal Air Force Red Arrow display from the Buckingham Palace balcony.
Last month, it was announced that Philip would be retiring from public appearances in August.
