"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" took in $145 million at the U.S. box office this weekend, Variety reports.

On top of being the #1 film in the galaxy, it set a new record for the widest-ever Imax opening, and made an estimated $174 million globally from 3D ticket sales alone.

The sequel featured returning stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper as the guardians, adding roles for Kurt Russell and Pom Klementieff.

There is already a third installment in the works.
