On last night’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” it was announced that Kate Upton is the cover girl for the 2017 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue!
It’s the third time that Upton has landed the cover for the Swimsuit Issue, tying her with Christie Brinkley, who also made her return to the issue this year. Tyra Banks and Heidi Klum hold the record for the most SI Swimsuit covers, with five each.
After the announcement, Upton wrote on Instagram, "Wow, I feel so honored and excited to be back with Sports Illustrated!! Thank you @si_swimsuit and @mj_day for inviting me to be part of an issue that features and celebrates beauty and confidence in every shape and size #siswim17 #grateful.”
Her fiancé Justin Verlander tweeted, "Congrats to my amazing fiancée @KateUpton on being named to the #siswim17 cover! You're so incredible! #luckyman #happyvalentinesday #thrice."
The issue also features five previous cover models (Nina Agdal, Christie Brinkley, Ashley Graham, Hannah Jeter and Chrissy Teigen), five mothers (and one expecting), five world-famous athletes (Simone Biles, Genie Bouchard, Aly Raisman, Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki) and seven rookies.
Swimsuit Editor MJ Day said in a statement, "The women of SI Swimsuit 2017 are a collection of change agents, pioneers, power brokers and breakout stars-in-waiting who have in their own way redefined the cultural conversation around beauty. These ladies embody character and beauty—and they prove that when it comes to beauty, there is not one singular definition. This is the very essence of SI Swimsuit, and it’s our guiding principle as we move forward.”
