During an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Monday night, Donald Trump’s wife Melania defended her husband against sexual abuse allegations which recently made headlines after his lewd comments about women leaked.
Last week, People magazine writer Natasha Stoynoff, Jessica Leeds, Rachel Crooks, and Temple Taggart McDowell, all came forward and accused Trump of sexual assault, which he has denied. Melania said, "The story that came out in PEOPLE magazine, the writer she said my husband took her to the room and started kissing her, she wrote in the same story about me that she saw me on 5th Avenue, and I said to her, ‘Natasha, how come we don’t see you anymore?’ I was never friends with her, I would not recognize her.”
She went on, “That never happened, I was never friends with her. I saw her, she interviewed us twice, she came to the wedding, and for that story, that’s it. I would not recognize her on the street or ask her why we don’t see her anymore, so that was another thing like people come out saying lies and not true stuff.”
As for allegations made by the other women, Melania bristled, "No that isn’t sexual assault. He didn’t say that he did it... I see many, many women coming to him and giving the phone numbers and, you know, want to work for him. And they know he’s married. They do it in front of me.” Watch!
Melania also blamed Billy Bush for Donald Trump’s vulgar comments about women in 2005. She said, "As you can see from the tape, the cameras were not on, only the mic, and I wonder if they even knew that the mic was on, because they were kind of a boy talk, and he was led on, like egg[ed] on, from the host to say dirty and bad stuff.” Watch!
On Trump’s choice words in the video, she revealed, "I said to my husband that, you know, the language was inappropriate. It's not acceptable. And I was surprised, because that is not the man that I know."
When Cooper pointed out that Trump was 59 when he said those comments, Melania answered, "Correct, and sometimes I said, I have two boys at home. I have my young son, and I have my husband. But I know how some men talk, and that's how I saw it.”
Melania told Cooper that she was not shocked about the footage being leaked. She explained, "It's many people from the opposite side, they want to damage the campaign. Why now? Why after so many years? Why three weeks before the election?”
Despite the recent scandals, the 46-year-old former model also argued that Trump has respect for women. "He's raw. He will say it as he feels it. So you know, I know he respects women. But he's defending himself because they're lies."
Melania also opened up about the pressure of being Trump’s wife, emphasizing, "I’m very strong. And people, they don’t really know me. People think I talk about me like, ‘Oh Melania. Oh poor Melania.’ Don’t feel sorry for me. I can handle everything.”
