People magazine is reporting that Rob Kardashian's surprising news — that he will become a first-time dad with his fiancée Blac Chyna — isn't so surprising, considering his longtime secret desire to have kids.
A source tells the magazine that Rob "always wanted to be a dad," and singles out Rob's relationship with his late father as one reason why.
"Rob was very close to his dad and lost him at a young age," the source says. "He's never felt like he had a real father figure. He's always wanted to give that to his own kids."
Everything's moving pretty fast for Rob and Chyna — he proposed in April, just two and a half months after their first date — which could be a little unsettling to the rest of the Kardashians. Another source tells People that the family thought his relationship with Chyna would be "a phase" and that his engagement would eventually be broken.
"But now that there's a baby coming, everyone in the family knows that this relationship has permanence. Even if it doesn't work out, they're going to be co-parents of this child forever," the second source says.
Kylie Jenner, whose boyfriend Tyga has a child with Chyna, liked Chyna's baby announcement on Instagram and Tyga has congratulated her. Time will tell just how warmly and publicly the rest of the brood comes around to Rob's new partner... and to the reality of the newest Kardashian-to-be.
