Blake Shelton Acknowledges ‘Crazy Year’ After Trace Adkins Pokes Fun at His Love Life
Last night, Blake Shelton was a big winner, taking home his first CMT Artist of the Year Award in Nashville.
Before he took the stage, Trace Adkins made reference to Shelton's divorce from Miranda Lambert and his new romance with Gwen Stefani before honoring him.
Adkins joked, "I've known Blake personally and professionally for 15 years or so. And his rise to fame has really been incredible to watch. He has been named the CMA Male Vocalist of the Year five times. He has had four albums reach the top of the chart, 15 number-one singles in a row. On top of all that, he has still got his day job on 'The Voice.' Not a whole lot this guy can't do… other that keep his love life private.”
In his acceptance speech, Shelton acknowledged his personal life, along with his thank-yous. "So let me just say that I want to thank my label and thank my entire team. There's too many people to stand up here and name, but more importantly, I want to say that this has been a crazy year, from the way it started to how it's ending, so awesome for me. So thank y'all. This is a great way to end it for me. Thank you so much.”
Last year, Miranda won the same award and thanked Blake, saying, "My husband, I always forget to thank him, but he's my rock – Blake Shelton.”
Though Blake took a fun jab from Adkins, he himself razzed close buddy Luke Bryan. While holding a candle of Luke, Blake said, "Man, I gotta get me some of these candles. They smell exactly like Luke. It's like vanilla with a hint of deer urine.”
"Extra" was on the red carpet of the awards show catching up with Blake's pal Luke Bryan as he gushed about their friendship, check it out!
