'Love Boat' Captain Gavin MacLeod Tried to Commit Suicide on Mulholland Drive
The “Love Boat’s” Captain Stubing aka Gavin MacLeod is looking back at his life and revealing his darkest secrets in a shocking tell-all called “This Is Your Captain Speaking.”
“Extra’s” A.J. Calloway caught up with MacLeod in Times Square, where he opened up about a time when his life spun out of control. He was drinking too much and even attempted suicide.
Before the “Love Boat,” Gavin landed a small role in “McHale’s Navy,” but it only frustrated him even more.
“I started to drink,” he said. “I thought it would help me. It made it worse.”
MacLeod continued, “I thought, ‘I'm not worth anything’ and I was so self involved. I didn’t have God and I tried to go off the top of Mulholland Drive to end everything, but something stopped, I put my foot on the brake. It wasn’t me, it was something else.”
When he came-to, he went to his friend Robert Blake’s house and told him what happened, and the actor helped him get back on track.
Now, he’s sober and happily married to his wife of 40 years, Patti Kendig!
