The couple's different lifestyle views may be a contributing factor, says the Post. Gere, 64, loves solitude, while Lowell, 52, likes socializing.
A friend also confirmed the split to People.com, saying, "They'll do everything possible to keep things amicable and put their child first."
A rep for Gere had no comment. The actor is starting production in Philadelphia next month on the indie film “Franny.”
This isn't the first marriage for either. Gere was wed to Cindy Crawford, and Lowell was married twice before, to photographer John Stember and actor Griffin Dunne.
Gere and Lowell have a son, Homer, 13.
It seems that Richard Gere and wife Carey Lowell are ending their 11-year marriage. The NY Post reports that while no divorce papers have been filed, the two have separated.
