ABC’s ‘Day of Giving’ Raises Millions for Hurricane Sandy Victims
Monday marked a “Day of Giving” for ABC. The network used each of its programs as a call to action, asking viewers to donate to victims of Hurricane Sandy.
“Good Morning America” kicked off the campaign at 7 AM with a phone bank manned by a few famous faces, including Barbara Walters and Katie Couric.
Robin Roberts, at home recovering from a bone marrow transplant, also sent a special message. “I know what it's like to see your hometown virtually wiped out, because I remember the day after Katrina, Hurricane Katrina, being there, my beloved home state of Mississippi, walking in the rubble."
She later added, “Let them know we care by giving whatever we can.”
The effort continued throughout the day and will culminate with “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” The network raised more than $10 million by 5 PM ET. Follow the live blog at ABCNews.com.
