Actress Cameron Diaz told viewers Monday on the "Today" show how she has healed from heartbreak through the years.

When asked about the advice she was given to help get over the pain of ending a relationship, she said, "Eight years ago, a friend of mine said you shouldn't think of it as a loss… you should think of it as a gain because the amount of love you feel, the heartbreak, it shows how capable you are of loving."

She added, "Things turned around for me. I know what my capacity is now."

The "What to Expect When You're Expecting" star and Yankee slugger Alex Rodriguez ended their year-and-a-half romance in September. She dated Justin Timberlake from 2003-2006.
