It makes sense that the enduring and magical "Harry Potter" franchise would rank high on our Entertainer of the Year list (last year the cast made No. 1!) The books and movies have been entertaining people for over a decade.

With the release of the first book, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" in 1997, author JK Rowling spurred the imagination of millions with her fantastical world of witches and wizards, centering on one boy who survives an attack by the world's most powerful and evil wizard, Lord Voldemort -- and spends the rest of his childhood battling him.

The first film was released in 2001 and introduced young newcomer Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, along with Emma Watson and Rupert Grint as Harry's stalwart best friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley.

Through the course of the next 11 years, audiences watched these talented three grow up, supported by a who's who of British A-listers, including Michael Gambon, Maggie Smith, Alan Rickman, Ralph Fiennes, Imelda Staunton, Emma Thompson, Gary Oldman, Jim Broadbent, Jason Isaacs, Helena Bonham Carter and others.

And it was hard to say goodbye when the final movie installment, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2," hit theaters in July.
