'American Idol': Change is Gonna Come
Season 10 of "American Idol" is almost here -- and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe is changing-up the competition.
According to Lythgoe, the competition will be cut down to the top 12 contestants -- and for the first time will not include the top 24.
"I didn't think [the top 24] were very good," Lythgoe told TV Guide about previous seasons. "I was bored with them by the time they got there."
Auditioning potential singers all around the country, Lythgoe said the judges have been seeing a wider range of talent than in previous seasons.
The producer also revealed that the finalists will face difficult challenges, including making their own music video, promoting themselves, and creating an awards show-style performance.
