Kevin Costner's High-Tech Help for Oil Spill
Actor/environmental activist Kevin Costner has developed a new technology that can separate oil from water and is excited to be able to finally put it to good use.
Costner funded a science group, Ocean Therapy Solutions, 15 years ago after the Exxon Valdez spill. Headed by the actor's brother, Dan Costner, they developed machines that can clean oil-tainted water up to 97 percent, WDSU.com reports. Now Costner is pushing to use this technology on the mess in the Gulf of Mexico.
"I'm just very happy that the light of day has come to this, and I'm very sad about why it is, but this is why it was developed, and like anything that we all face as a group, we face it together," Costner told the local news media.
BP officials and Ocean Therapy Solutions are working out how best to use the machines in the Gulf and hope to have them deployed within the week. Watch Costner explain the technology in this video!
