Ricky Gervais, creator and star of the original BBC Series "The Office," and executive producer of the NBC version of the show, opened the Golden Globes with a barrage of jokes aimed at Hollywood stars and at NBC.
"Actors aren't just loved here in Hollywood, they're loved the world over because they are recognizable. You could be anywhere, you could be in the third world and you get a glimpse of a Hollywood star and it makes you feel better, you could be a little Asian child with no possessions or no money and see a picture of Angelina Jolie and think... mommy." Then the comedian immediately quipped, "Let's get on with this before NBC replaces me with Jay Leno."
