Jerry's Behind-the-Scenes Moments
Hey there... this'll be fun. Look at this as the "what you didn't or couldn't see on Extra" blog. I get to share so much more while I'm out and about interviewing actors for my job, and doing the red carpet thing. You get a good sense of it when you watch our show, but there's so much more that goes on, which hopefully I'll be able to share with you here ongoing. So, here goes....
Been a busy couple of days despite the cancellation of the Golden Globes. Spent Saturday morning with Diane Lane -- spectacular -- and not just because of her beauty -- but her brains, too. Smart lady. And truly in love with her man, Josh Brolin. So much so she's "this close" to saying she's going to retire, without actually retiring. She's going to scale back her work tremendously, though, to be a stay-at-home wife and Mom. She told me IF she used the word "retire" then of course, the greatest role of her lifetime would be offered (like a Scarlett O'Hara in 'Gone With the Wind') and then she'd be red-faced and have to come OUT of retirement... I've interviewed Diane before, and she's always, without question, an extreme pleasure. Never, ever any pretense.
Capped off the night at the new Katsu-ya restaurant. Now, keep in mind, I'm not typically out at the hottest, newest restaurants, clubs, etc. In fact, that would be a rare thing for me. I just happened to be given a very generous gift card for Christmas to this restaurant, and wanted to share it with a few friends. We decided on going early on Saturday because we were all headed to the Kathy Griffin show later that night at the Kodak (hilarious, but more on that in a moment). What a great place, Katsu-ya. Highly stylized and amazing food, right at the corner of Hollywood and Vine. Ran into Billy Baldwin and his wife Chynna Phillips, having a casual dinner at the bar... and of course, my friends were thrilled to be introduced to them. Lo and behold, we find out that LATER that night, who shows up at the very same restaurant???... none other than Brad and Angelina... We just missed them.
Onto the Kodak theatre, yes, the same venue where the Oscars take place. Full house for Kathy Griffin. The D-list has been very, very good to her. Gave a big hug to Camryn Manheim who was third row center with friends. Hadn't seen her since my art show, which she was so kind to attend... and she was trying to give me her number in my cell phone, and security rushed me to my seat because the show was starting. So, Camryn, if I have the wrong number, that's why I didn't call. Kathy was piss-in-your-pants funny. Just knows how to take pop culture and make it even funnier than it already is.
On my way to Sundance... in freezing Park City, Utah. I believe this is my 13th year going. Should be even bigger (if that's possible) this year. Big stars like Bobby DeNiro, Sean Penn, Colin Farrell, Tom Hanks... I'll keep you updated if my fingers don't freeze, and as soon as I can get to a computer out there.
Thanks for reading, and more to come!
